Weehawken Schools Continue a Tradition of Academic Excellence |

I’m pleased to report some great news about the recent excellent performance of Weehawken students on a variety of academic achievements. First, you may have read in the Weehawken Reporter that New Jersey magazine ranked Weehawken High School among the top high schools in the state, a testament to our belief that we can offer a private school quality education in a small public school district. At the United States government level, the No Child Left Behind legislation designates schools as in need of improvement or not in need of improvement based on a series of standardized tests administered to students in grades 3-8 and in grade 11. Again, Weehawken schools met all performance standards and yearly progress goals, and were found not in need of improvement, the only district in Hudson County so designated. In comparison, more than 1123 schools in the state failed to meet this designation, as did half the charter schools taking the tests. At the New Jersey state level, all of the Weehawken schools underwent an intensive monitoring process called QSAC (Quality Single Accountability Continuum) and an accompanying district performance review. Five areas were evaluated: instruction and program, fiscal management, operations management, personnel, and governance. The district’s scores ranged from 95% - 100% in each of the areas, and as a result, our district was designated as a “high performing” school district. For further information about these tremendous academic accomplishments, and news about other exciting events and activities happening in the Weehawken schools, check out our website at www.weehawken.k12.nj.us or contact any of our school principals: Dr. Peter J. Olivieri (Weehawken High School) at 201-422-6130; Mr. Al Orecchio (Theodore Roosevelt School) at 201-422-6140; or Mr. Anthony Colasurdo (Daniel Webster School) at 201-422-6150.
